Your Vote Counts! Enrol to Vote today

At the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, we are passionate about young people’s voices getting heard on the issues that matter most to them.

But 25% of young people aged 18-24 weren’t enrolled to vote in the last election. That means that thousands of young people missed out on having their voice heard on issues that matter to them, like climate action, because they weren’t enrolled to vote.

Our generation is going to inherit the consequences of the decisions made  today. That’s why our voice needs to be heard, and why all young people should enrol to vote.

We are asking schools and teachers across Australia to encourage students over 16 years to enrol to vote this election year. As educational institutions, schools have an important role to play in empowering students to become active and engaged citizens.

To make sure young people’s voices can be heard on the issues that are important to them, make sure you support them to enrol today.

Just head to to either update your enrolment or register to vote for the first time (it only takes 5 minutes!)

There are 3 easy ways you can support raise awareness about getting students at your school to enrol to vote and make their voice heard:

  1. Send out this Schools Youth Enrolment letter to all students over 16, which details why enrolling to vote is important, and the 5 minute process of enrolling online.
  2. Put the above graphic in your next school newsletter, noticeboard or daily bulletin to remind students to enrol to vote
  3. Organise a lunchtime session with Year 11 and 12 students to share why enrolling to vote is an empowering and effective way of getting their voice heard on the issues that matter to them.

Next Thursday 28th April is National Enrol to Vote Day – why not organise an event or youth enrolment booth at your school to make sure all your students are enrolled to vote!
